Neuromuscular (Myotherapy, Trigger Point) Therapy
Pain Management / Elimination

This therapy is the cornerstone of my practice. Neuromuscular therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which static pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle. These areas of strain are tender and are called Myofascial Trigger Points and are the cause of muscular pain symptoms. Trigger points are areas of hypersensitivity in a muscle caused by overstrain. They cause pain, fatigue, and weakness in the muscle. Although this type of technique often involves a "good" pain, it does not have to hurt for us to reach your therapeutic goals.

Orthopedic Massage
Testing & Techniques Used to Assess/Address Soft Tissue & Joint Pain / Elimination

This kind of therapy, which is also a medical therapy, is focused on treating painful conditions which affect the soft tissues of the body, in particular, the musculoskeletal system. Using specific testing and a variety of techniques, I can assess the problem quickly and narrow down our choices for treatment. Often, this type of therapy is recommended by a physician who wants a patient to pursue multiple treatment options. The techniques involve releasing tight muscles, stretch shortened muscles and tendons, and decompress joints with the main goal being to normalize the soft tissues of the body.

Structural Integration
Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques

Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT) is a type of bodywork that blends the principles of osteopathy and structural integration to relieve chronic pain and to reduce the potential for the emergence of pain which could become chronic over time. The basic idea behind MAT is that back and neck pain are caused by fundamental problems with the musculoskeletal system. Tight, stressed muscles contribute to pain by limiting freedom of movement, while weak muscles provide inadequate support for the body. This in turn leads to postural problems, stiffness, and other symptoms which create an endless cycle of pain. By addressing the fundamental issues in the muscles and fascia we can eliminate the associated symptoms.

Myofascial Release Therapy
Muscular Tension Release

Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that is aimed at releasing tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues, called fascia, surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain. This therapy employs long stretching strokes meant to release the fascia, balance both tissue and muscle mechanics, and improve joint range of motion in order to relieve pain.

Deep Tissue Massage Therapy
Muscle Flexibility / System Detoxification / System Cleansing

A combination of moderate to deep pressure that uses a variety of techniques to release tight, sore muscles.  This therapy involves working with, as well as against the muscle grain.  The result is the stretching and broadening of the muscle tissue which, in turn increases circulation and helps make the muscle tissue more flexible.
